Kaia Parnaby moved with one win from tying the University of Hawaii’s single season record for victories, and she did it by bouncing back in a big way.
Parnaby struck out nine batters and Kayla Wartner hit a two-run home run as the Rainbow Wahine rebounded with a 8-1 victory at Cal State Bakersfield.
Two days after she was roughed up at Fullerton, Parnaby pitched six solid innings and gave up a run for UH (34-8). Melissa Coogen won 32 games in 2003, a mark thay Parnaby (31-4) could have a chance to tie Friday at Cal Poly.
Kelly Majam was 3 for 4 and scored one of her three runs ahead of Wartner’s ninth home run of the season in the fourth that gave Hawaii a 4-0 lead. Wartner also finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, including an RBI single in the sixth that plated Majam, who had doubled.
Jessica Zamora was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Jessica Iwata was 2 for 4 and Kristina Akiona hit a pinch-hit home run in the seventh.
One of Parnaby’s few mistakes came on Shav Fryer’s solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.
Parnaby allowed five hits and did not walk a batter.
The first of four pitchers for the Roadrunners (13-26), Amber Mills (3-11) pitched an inning and took the loss.
